English Dear Northrop families, I am thrilled to announce that acting Assistant Principal, Matthew Freese, has accepted the position of Principal at Hiawatha College Prep - Northrop(HCPN)! Matthew’s first day as principal will be on July 5th, 2023. Matthew has been an essential member of our community, serving HCPN families and scholars since 2018. His dedication to our scholars, families, and staff, has been nothing less than exceptional. In the past 4.5 years, Matthew has held leadership positions in many key areas. He started as the founding Dean of Students and has been an integral part of the HCPN leadership team since the school was founded in 2018. He was promoted to Assistant Principal in December of 2021, and in this role, Matthew helped maintain stability and a sense of community throughout a pandemic, leadership gaps, and transitions by centering our scholars and families in his work. He is excited to continue to work with a strong team that tirelessly creates an excellent school for all scholars. At Hiawatha Academies, we are deeply committed to disrupting inequities and providing an excellent school for every child. Matthew exemplifies our values, and his experience, dedication, and passion for his community make him the ideal leader to live into our mission of empowering our scholars to develop the knowledge, character, and leadership skills to graduate from college and serve the common good. Joel Carlovsky, current principal for HLAN and HCPN, will be positioned as HLAN’s dedicated principal starting SY23-24.
