Mental Health

Prioritizing and supporting mental health is essential for both personal and academic success. At Hiawatha Academies, we are committed to collaboratively addressing the mental health needs of our students. Through continuous staff development, school-based counseling and support, and consultation and care coordination with community-based professionals, we strive to provide comprehensive support.

Diverse Therapists for a Diverse Student Body
Recognizing the diverse backgrounds of our students, our team of therapists brings rich experiences and cultural competence to serve better the unique needs of each individual including staff that speak Somali and Spanish.

School Counseling Services
Our Student Services department offers school counseling services, available to any student in Hiawatha Academies. These services are delivered by trained professionals, including licensed school counselors, school social workers, and school psychologists. It's important to note that school counseling services differ from clinic-based mental health services and are not intended to be therapeutic or a substitute for clinical therapy.

Co-located Therapy Services
Hiawatha Academies extends co-located mental health services on-site throughout our district in collaboration with partner mental health clinics. Therapists from Life Curation are provided space within assigned school buildings, offering services similar to those in clinic settings. While therapy services are typically billed through insurance, assistance is often available for uninsured or underinsured families.

Tiered Support Levels
We proudly service students at the Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels, tailoring our approach to meet the unique needs of each student within a tiered support system.
