May 28th: Board election and laptop collection

Board Election
Parent and teacher voices matter, especially on our Board of Directors which governs our network. Our Board of Directors will hold an election for open director’s positions on June 2nd and 3rd. All Hiawatha Academies staff members, current Board members, and parents/legal guardians of Hiawatha Academies’ students can vote in the election.
Please go to www.hiawathaacademies.org/bod/ for detailed biographies in English, Spanish and Somali audio and instructions for how to vote. On Wednesday morning, look out for a text and/or email with your unique Voter ID and Voter Key. VOTE!


Hiawatha Device Collection
Hiawatha Academies will be holding collection events to collect all Hiawatha laptops and devices. Collection dates are based on your child’s current learning model. Outlined below is the process:

Collection items:

    • Chromebook (including charger)
    • Wifi Hotspot device
    • Education materials, including books

For In-person learners: You will receive text messages from your school for laptop/hotspot/materials collection/drop-off at your child’s respective school.

For Distance learners: Hiawatha Collegiate High School will be holding laptop/hotspot/materials collection on June 10th from 10 am- 2 pm for ALL Distance learners in the parking lot behind the school building. This also applies to in-person learners who were not able to drop off their devices at their child’s campus-specific collections.

For those participating in K-4 Family Led Summer Learning: We will communicate at the end of the program about when and where to return your technology.


Food Distribution
All families are invited to a drive-through food distribution on May 28th from 2:00 - 5:00 at Hiawatha Collegiate High School, 2800 E 35th St. Bread, dairy, produce, and dried goods will be available. There is currently no summer meal distribution planned after the school year ends.  Next week’s meal distribution will be on Tuesday, June 1st due to Memorial Day. Last day of meal distribution is June 7th.

Elección De La Junta

Las voces de padres y maestros importan, especialmente en nuestra Junta Directiva la cual gobierna nuestra red. Nuestra Junta Directiva llevará a cabo elecciones electrónicas para los asientos vacantes el 2 y 3 de Junio, 2021. Todos los miembros actuales del personal de Hiawatha Academies, miembros actuales de la Junta, y padres / guardianes legales de estudiantes de Hiawatha Academies pueden votar en la elección.

Recolección de Dispositivos de Hiawatha
Hiawatha Academies llevará a cabo eventos de recolección para recolectar todas las computadoras y los dispositivos de Hiawatha. Las fechas de recolección están basadas en el modelo de aprendizaje actual de su estudiante. El proceso está descrito a continuación:

Objetos recolectados: 

    • Chromebook (incluyendo el cargador)

    • Materiales educativos, incluyendo libros

Para estudiantes en persona: Usted recibirá mensajes de texto de su escuela sobre la recolección/entrega de computadoras/hotspot/materiales en la escuela respectiva de su estudiante. 

Para estudiantes a distancia: Hiawatha Collegiate High School llevará a cabo una recolección de computadoras/hotspots/materiales el 10 de Junio de 10am a 2pm para TODOS los estudiantes a distancia en el estacionamiento detrás del edificio escolar. Esto también es aplicable para estudiantes en persona quienes no pudieron pasar a dejar sus dispositivos a las recolecciones de sus respectivas escuelas.

Para aquellos participando en el Aprendizaje de Verano Liderado por Familias para K-4: Nosotros comunicaremos al final del programa cuándo y cómo regresar su tecnología. 


Distribución de Alimentos
Todas las familias están invitadas a una distribución de alimentos a su vehículo el 28 de Mayo de 2 a 5pm en Hiawatha Collegiate High School, 2800 E 35th St. Pan, productos lácteos, frutas/verduras, y productos secos estarán disponibles. Bread, dairy, produce, and dried goods will be available. Actualmente, no hay distribuciones de alimentos planificadas después de que el año escolar termine.  La distribución de alimentos de la próxima semana será el martes 1 de Junio debido al Día de la Recordación (Memorial Day). El último día de distribución de alimentos es el 7 de Junio.
