July 27th: Welcome to Hiawatha Academies!

Welcome back to a new school year! We are so excited for you and your child(ern) to be a part of Hiawatha Academies’ network of amazing schools! As we prepare for the start of the school year, we want to take the time to share a few midsummer updates with you.

What’s been happening at Hiawatha Academies this summer?

  • Student learning continued into the summer! We are proud of all the students and families who participated in our summer learning programs.  Across the network, nearly 350 students have participated in summer learning! These programs have given students and families the opportunity to get back into our school buildings, work with teachers, get some focused support and instruction, and have some fun before the start of the school year.
  • Staff took time to enjoy summer and recharge! Our leaders and office staff who keep our schools running and growing are back in the buildings and have already started the busy planning process to welcome our students, families, and teachers in August.
  • The Board of Directors continued interviewing Interim Executive Director candidates and hopes to have an announcement soon. Thank you to leadership, staff, and families on the board who have in the past two months dedicated time and energy to finding and interviewing the best candidate to fill the Interim E.D. position.

Will scholars attend school in person or continue distance learning at home?

Hiawatha will be fully in-person during the 2021-22 school year! No virtual or distance options will be offered. At the current time, Hiawatha will continue to prioritize student and staff health and will practice all recommended Covid safety procedures, including mask-wearing, air purifiers in each room, and social distancing, when possible. It is also critically important that families continue to screen students for symptoms on a daily basis and keep them home when sick. As we receive more guidance from the Minnesota Department of Health, we will continue to share updates for the 21-22 school year and will update the network website on an ongoing basis.
