Student's Commitment

We fully commit to Hiawatha Leadership Academy (HLA) in the following ways:

  • We will arrive at HLA every day by 7:45 AM (Monday-Friday).
  • We will remain at HLA until 4:15 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and until 2 PM on Friday.
  • We will come to school every day prepared to learn. We will not take shortcuts. Every day, we will be the best students and people we can be and constantly challenge ourselves to get better.
  • We will always work, think, and behave in the best way we know how, and we will do whatever it takes for our fellow teammates and us to learn. We will give 100% every day.
  • We will take charge of our own learning by participating in class, listening to our teachers and teammates in a respectful manner, and by asking questions if we do not understand.
  • We will complete all of our homework every night.
  • We will ask our teachers for help when we need it, both in class and outside of class.
  • We will call the HLA office if we are unable to come to school or we have a problem getting to school.
  • If we make a mistake, we will always tell the truth and accept responsibility for our actions.
  • We will always behave in order to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the classroom.
  • We will always follow our teachers' directions.
  • We will always treat our teammates, teachers, parents, and visitors with kindness, courtesy, and respect.
  • We will respect everyone at Hiawatha Leadership Academy regardless of race, color, gender, handicap, age, religion, disability, lifestyle, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin.
  • We will always act in a professional manner when speaking with someone at Hiawatha Leadership Academy.
  • We will follow the Hiawatha Leadership dress code.
  • We will be good neighbors by participating in community service projects.
  • We will uphold the high expectations of Hiawatha Leadership Academy at all school related events on and off campus.
  • We are responsible for our behavior, and we will accept responsibility for our actions.

Teacher's / School Leader's Commitment

We fully commit to Hiawatha Leadership Academy (HLA) in the following ways:

  • We will arrive at HLA every day by 7:15 A.M. (Monday – Friday)
  • We will remain at HLA until 5:00 P.M. every day. (Monday – Friday)
  • We will always teach in the best way we know how, and we will do whatever it takes for every single one of our students to learn.
  • We will hold all of our students, parents, fellow staff members, and ourselves to HLA's high expectations.
  • We are committed to results: we will plan and execute rigorous lessons to prepare our students for success in college and in life.
  • We are committed to our own professional growth and constant learning: we will collaborate and plan with colleagues on a regular basis. We will give each other feedback regularly.
  • We will make ourselves available to students and parents during the school day. We will make ourselves available to students, parents, and fellow staff members via phone in the evenings until 8:30 PM, on weekends, and during vacations to address any questions or concerns they may have. We will respond to phone calls and emails within 24 hours. We will regularly provide parents with updates on their children's progress.

  • We will always protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the classroom.
  • We will strive to be the best teachers we can be, modeling the school values of H.E.A.R.T. and taking no shortcuts in preparing our students for success in college and in life.

Parent/Guardian's Commitment

We fully commit to Hiawatha Leadership Academy (HLA) in the following ways:

  • We will make sure our child arrives at HLA by 7:45 every day (Monday-Friday).
  • If our child's teacher or school leader requests a meeting, we agree to meet within 48 hours.
  • If our child needs to stay for homework help or is asked to stay after school, we will make arrangements for him/her to stay.
  • We will do all we can to support our child and the commitment he/she has made to attend HLA. We will partner with the teachers and staff of HLA to help our child excel in school, both academically and behaviorally.
  • We will always help our child in the best way we know how, and we will do whatever it takes for him/her to learn.
  • We will check our child's homework every night, sign his/her agenda, and let him/her call a classmate or teacher (until 8:30pm) if there is a question or problem with the homework. We will try to read with our child every night.
  • We will read carefully and sign (if necessary) any papers the school sends home to us.
  • We will always make ourselves available to our children and the school and address any concerns they may have. We will meet regularly with the teachers to discuss our child's progress.
  • If our child is going to miss school, we will call the school in advance and notify teachers as soon as possible.
  • We will allow our child to go on HLA field lessons.
  • We will make sure our child follows the HLA dress code.
  • We understand that our child must follow the HLA rules in order to protect the safety, interests, and rights of all individuals in the classroom.
  • We will respect everyone at HLA regardless of race, color, gender, handicap, age, religion, disability, lifestyle, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. We will always act in a professional manner when speaking with someone at HLA.
  • We will help our child prepare for college and life by supporting him/her and encouraging him/her to adhere to his/her commitment to excellence.
  • We, not the school, are responsible for the behavior of our child.
